Protect
Working Musicians

The Protect Working Musicians Act (PWMA) empowers artists by allowing them a market-based path to protect and be compensated for their work when large digital platforms and AI companies use it. The bill provides a narrowly tailored antitrust safe harbor so that sole-proprietor musicians can band together to negotiate fair licensing terms.

Grants small and independent artists the legal ability to jointly negotiate with streaming platforms and AI companies.

Levels the playing field for small and independent musicians who currently have little control over their revenue streams.

Aims to create a more equitable and transparent system for small and independent artists in the digital music marketplace.

Supports responsible AI development by enabling permissioned use of music by AI companies without imposing new mandates.

Ensures that antitrust laws do not prevent artists from organizing to push for fairer pay and licensing terms.

Provides a legal framework for artists to stand together and advocate for transparent, predictable compensation.

"Independent musicians are the lifeblood of a diverse and thriving music ecosystem, yet they continue to face an uneven playing field when negotiating with some of the most powerful technology and streaming companies in the worlD"
